Careers-Employment I am a Certified Medical Assistant. I unexpectedly got pregnant in 2004 with no education and no direction. While I was at home, no more than a one bedroom shack, during that pregnancy I saw many late night infomercials for Medical Assisting. I knew I need to make a change because in order to provide for my child I was going to need a career and serving was not an option. I also knew that if I could show my husband, boyfriend of one year at the time, which I could do it, then he would be driven to follow suit. I am very proud to say I visited a campus and began classes the next day. I was finishing up my externship when my son turned one. I was hired off my externship and have had a very good three years in the field. I have worked many specialties including most recently instructing at a campus similar to the one I went to. This was very rewarding getting to see others in the same place I started make that leap into a career and bettering their lives. Since I graduated in Feb 2006 I have gotten married and last August was blessed with another son. When my son was six months old I had a cancer scare. The Doctors thought it was a Trophoblastic tumor. It turns out it was just a uterine fibroid but that I was pregnant again. Blessing to not be a tumer but oh goodness we are going to have two babies sixteen months apart. With this pregnancy we found out about 2 months ago that there is a chance of Trisomy 18, a rare genetic disorder that results in 50% stillbirth and beyond that about a three year survival rate. These three years will be filled with full time care, nurses and doctor appointments, therapy… a very busy schedule with one child not to mention the other two that I have and one being only sixteen months older. SN:0TG9Y2ESY With the cost of childcare/preschool these days my husband and I have to work completely opposing schedules. He works from 6:30am to 4:30pm and I teach from 5:00pm to 10:00pm. I miss him dearly and I truly miss dinner and bedtime with my children. It is like being a single parent. It is exhausting to say the least. I put in a full day at home with the children and then I put in five hours helping others to make a career for themselves. By the time I get home and get showered and have a minute for myself and catch up with the chores it is midnight and I have to start all over again the next day at 6:30 or 7:00am. My doctor recently put me on early maternity leave as the baby was not gaining the weight she need to so I am not bringing in any income right now to help out with the house payment or the bills not to mention we have to buy a bigger vehicle to fit all the car seats in. With the economy the way it is my husbands work is feeling the pressure. He is a Land Surveyor and it is hard to find work in the winter, there have also been many layoffs in his profession lately. I really would love to be able to make a contribution for my family and working from home at this point is my only option. I would also love to have the flexibility to stay home after my daughter is born especially if she is sick and I only have a limited time to spend with her. I would like to get back into the workforce after the kids have grown and are all in school fulltime and I know having a medical transcriptionist training along with my Medical Assisting Certification would only better my abilities. I would like to obtain my education through Future MT because it is a flexible online medical transcription course and I can work at my own pace. I am very driven and I know I have a deadline to meet. It would make a world of difference to me and my family. For more information, visit About the Author: 相关的主题文章:
